Santa Ana    ·    Tall Fescue    ·    Kikuyu

Santa Ana

Description:

A premium quality fine textured variety with a very attractive lush green appearance. A warm season grass that goes dormant during the cooler months. Very well suited to South Australia's hot and dry conditions.

Still the best performer in all types of fine bladed couch varieties (including new hybrids) in our climatic region according to independent studies that can be found on the internet at www.fnas.uwa.edu.au/ under 'home, research centres, turf research program, research, water use & drought tolerance in turf grasses update (this study was conducted in Western Australia by the University of Western Australia). The climates in the region where the studies were undertaken are not that dissimilar to South Australia's.

This study is an independent one. Please take the time to go over it and make your own mind up.

Traits:

High to very high heat and drought tolerance. Very good high traffic/pet tolerance. Prefers full sun, will tolerate part shade. Nice, soft feel underfoot. Will still thrive with a lot less watering and mowing than almost all other varieties. Maintains excellent winter colour (even through mild frosts with correct care throughout the year - see 'Turf Install and Care'). Slightly invasive with great self repairing properties.

Suitable Applications:

Family homes, children play areas, high traffic pet areas, golf course fairways, putting greens, dry / drought prone regions, sports grounds, etc.

Tall Fescue

Description:

A beautiful soft lawn with a very lush dark green appearance. A cool season variety that maintains fantastic colour all year round (evergreen).

Traits:

Good wearing, superb frost tolerance, poor drought tolerance, deep root system, non invasive, nice soft cool lush feel, no de-thatching required and can be laid at any time of the year. Prefers full sun, but will survive and perform well in up to 80% shade. Very slow to regenerate/repair itself.

Suitable Applications:

High presentation family homes, medium use play areas, shaded areas (those that still get some sun through the day), display homes, parks, gardens, etc.

Kikuyu (Male sterile dwarf)

Description:

Thick soft attractive warm season lawn with an impressive dark emerald green colour through the warmer months.

Traits:

Extreme drought/heat tolerance. Invasive, but also very good at self repairing. Very high/extreme wear/pet tolerance. Also fantastically suited to South Australia's dry and hot conditions. Will lose it's colour to a degree through the cooler months and will turn yellow after a frost (although it returns green again - even during winter with enough time between frosts - dependant on weather, watering and fertiliser conditions). Prefers full sun, but will tolerate part shade. Resists weeds, insects and disease very well. Responds very well to high nitrogen fertilisers. A tough lawn that looks good pretty well all year round.

Suitable Applications:

Pet areas, Family homes, holiday homes, parks, all areas that are normally neglected, dry / drought prone regions, country golf course fairways, parks, gardens, any area that requires a grass that is extremely hardy whilst still very attractive.
